&  Midtown 34th Street project

Present Art, Ecology and Urban Sustainability: An exhibition of contemporary art and a community forum.

April 22nd 2013 6-9pm

82 NW 34th Street

Art of Cultural Evolution and Midtown 34th Street is hosting a community catalyst event aimed at bringing together high caliber ideas, art and people for an evening of forging an empowered sustainable movement in Miami.

The evening will consist of a casual conversation of local initiatives who are bringing great projects to the city and artists who are working within a social and cultural realm. As the two merge together we hope to elevate the energy and momentum in facilitating a reclaiming of our lives.

Art of Cultural Evolution is an environmental and arts non profit dedicated to fostering a sustainable future through the arts. The organization has facilitated the Midtown 34th Street project: a vacant piece of property turned into a Sustainable Land Lab. The project is home to experimental organic gardens, various forms of composting and an ever growing public programming schedule that includes free workshops, demos, exhibitions, film screenings and more.

The Midtown 34th Street project is a test site for a larger initiative to bring an Arts and Science residency program to Miami and create an entirely autonyms Arts and Ecology center. The center will be housed in recycled shipping containers and utilize sustainable technologies.

Art, Urban Ecology and Sustainability: Contemporary Art and a Public Audience

Art of Cultural Evolution is excited to announce Midtown 34th Street project’s first contemporary exhibition.
The exhibition aims to inspire artists to respond to ideas about urban ecology, sustainability, nature, environment and the relationship of contemporary art to the following issues:

How does contemporary art transcend object making, capitalism, white cube galleries, empty aesthetics?
How does it integrate, respond to or inspire social movements, change ideologies and bring awareness to an audience?

We welcome innovative, high caliber, proposals from artists interested (or preoccupied!) with any of the above topics.
Please feel free to visit the space by appointment before submitting proposals.

All proposals must be submitted by email to Blair@artofculturalevolution.org

Please include a short text about your interest together with links to previous work or maximum of 3 jpegs as attachment.

An Urban Sustainability Project: Education, Community and Self Efficiency

Art of Cultural Evolution is teaming up with Artlurker.com, Transit Antenna and other local initiatives to launch a community project to bring environmental and sustainable awareness to Miami residents.

We have a dedicated site in Miami’s Midtown that we are developing into community gardens with organic food production, rainwater collection, solar energy, mobile eco live/work units, community composting, vermiculture, and open demonstrations of gardening, yoga and educational activities for children. This site aims to provide accessibility to sustainable education for Miami’s residents.

The Midtown (34th Street) project is also a precursor to a larger development called S.U.A.C (Sustainable Urban Arts Center). An entirely self sustaining arts park consisting of a natively landscaped green space, an international arts and sciences residency program, an education center, a bulk/0 packaging food store, community mulch, aquaculture ponds and much more.

SUAC will be an epicenter for innovation and engagement in Miami, a platform for sustainable initiatives and a public interface for locally oriented, internationally focused projects.

With our Midtown 34th Street project, we hope to foster enough support and resources to realize S.U.A.C and help Miami join other National leaders in environmental and social change.

Our collaborators and sponsors include: Artlurker.com, COLLASUS.com, Farm Fresh Miami, Galloway Farms Miami, Little River CSA,  Permaculture Miami, Ready-to-Go Gardens, Legacy Nursery, Shell Lumber, RAMBO, Little River CSA, Earth-N-Us Farm, Somerset Soil, 1 2 Tree, Wynwood II, WVO Designs, City of Miami’s Office of Sustainable Initiatives, Marathon Bio Diesel, FloJet, Anytime Rentals, Bamboo Barry, Museo Vault, North Star Energy Services, O-Cinema, Coral Morphologic  and many others.
